Antiviolence proposal: €5,000 fines and 12 months out for 6 Castellón ultras

Spain’s Antiviolence Commission has set out its proposed sanctions for six CD Castellón ultras involved in incidents reported after the second-leg playoff match against UD Almería last June, as detailed by Sport.

Proposal following the incidents

The commission proposes, individually for each of the six supporters, a €5,000 fine and a 12-month ban from entering any sports venue. The case relates to what happened once the match between Almería and Castellón had finished, in the area around the stadium.

As cited in the agreement published by the Spanish High Sports Council (Consejo Superior de Deportes), the fans are linked to allegedly “assaulting and intimidating local supporters”. The proposal is now the next step in the administrative process that will lead to the final decision.

From police investigation to Operation Kastali

The incidents triggered a police investigation which later led to what was dubbed Operation Kastali. In July, the National Police announced the arrests in the province of Castellón of six people connected to the ultra group Frente Orellut, allegedly tied to an assault on an Almería supporter.

According to the police investigation, after the game an Almería fan was surrounded, intimidated and attacked by several Castellón supporters at a nearby venue. The victim managed to get away and reached the stadium, where police officers assisted them. Investigators then worked to identify those presumed responsible.

Court measures and the club’s response

After being brought before a judge, the six detainees were placed under precautionary measures that include being barred from the stadiums where Castellón play. The club also said it would cancel the season tickets of those involved and publicly reiterated its rejection of violence, as Sport reports. The Antiviolence proposal is the administrative route now set in motion.
