De Laurentiis wants a new 70,000-seat stadium for Napoli

Napoli president and owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has laid out concrete plans to move on from the current home ground. As reported by RMC Sport, De Laurentiis said he wants a new 70,000-capacity stadium featuring 120 boxes and restaurants, to replace the ageing Diego Armando Maradona venue.

A new venue in Naples

De Laurentiis explained the project would be built on 38 hectares in the eastern area of Naples. He also described an ambitious add-on: an interactive museum and a virtual football feature, naming Maradona, Cavani and Higuaín as part of the experience. On financing, he claimed, “I won’t ask anyone for money,” and put a rough timeline of 24 months on completion.

He was also blunt about the existing stadium. Built in 1959, it is owned by the city of Naples and leased to Napoli for matchdays. RMC Sport notes the traditional criticisms: the track separating fans from the pitch and an overall layout and concrete structure judged far from modern standards, with a capacity around 60,000.

Training facilities updated too

De Laurentiis added that the club will build a replacement training complex for the current (criticised) setup at Castel Volturno. In Qualiano, he said, the plan covers 17.5 hectares, with ten football pitches and 7,500 square metres of facilities split between offices and changing rooms for both the first team and youth sides.

The announcement lands as Napoli sits ninth after five Serie A matchdays with seven points under Massimiliano Allegri. It’s also framed as part of broader local ambitions to win Euro 2032 matches, according to RMC Sport.
